The meltdown of freezers that destroyed about one-third of the world’s collection of autism brain samples could cause a major setback for autism and other medical research around the globe. The meltdown is a magnet held to a small stand by ice. A reed switch is below the magnet. When the ice melts, the magnet falls on the switch, closing it, and completing the alarm circuit. Our freezer quit working in a quite spectacular fashion. Combine this with the door being left open a couple inches and it was not a pretty site that greeted me.
