 DC motors include permanent magnet designs through 5 HP and wound field designs through 500 HP designed for adjustable speed operation fromSCRcontrols. Applications include conveyors, extruders, winders, printing presses and metering pumps. Most designs are constructed so a tachometer may be added for closed loop applications.The system shown consists of the HA-2542, a small 12-Vdc motor, and a position encoder. During operation, the encoder causes a series of `constant-width` pulses to charge CI. The integrated pulses develop a reference voltage, which is proportional to motor speed and is applied to the inverting input of HA-2542 . The noninverting input is held at a constant voltage, which represents the desired motor speed. A difference between these two inputs will send a corrected drive signal to the motor, which completes the speed control system loop.DC motors have a rotating armature winding but non-rotating armature magnetic field and a static field winding (winding that produce the main magnetic flux) or permanent magnet.The speed of a DC motor can be controlled by changing the voltage applied to the armature or by changing the field current.
