An electric bell is a mechanical bell that (with rare exceptions) functions by means of an electromagnet. When an electric current is applied, it produces a repetitive buzzing or clanging sound. Electric bells have been widely used at railroad crossings, in telephones, fire and burglar alarms, as school bells, doorbells, and alarms in industrial plants, but they are now being widely replaced with electronic sounders.The speaker emits a distinctive warble tone when ring pulses are applied to the phone line. Use this circuit as a remote bell or disconnect the phone`s ringer for direct use. Rl adjusts the duration of the output; R2 and R3 control the tone`s duty cycle and frequency. The transistor is a general-purposeNPN photodevice.The neon bulb and transistor are coupled with the heat-shrink tubing to form an optoisolator.The Phone Ringer circuit will work with any ordinary phone including older bell ringer types. The circuit rings the phone in a completely realistic manner until someone answers. When the receiver is lifted the user hears the audio of your choice. It might be another telephone, a tape recording, a favorite talk radio show, a fake busy-signal, a scanner tuned to weather or police, cues for the actor who forgot his next line, or whatever audio source strikes your fancy. DC current is passed through the phone to activate the phone’s electronics.
